Lyclear 5% Dermal Cream - 30g

What is Lyclear Dermal Cream?

Lyclear Dermal Cream is used to effectively treat scabies, crab lice (also known as pubic lice) and their eggs from the skin. It contains the ingredient permethrin belonging to a group of medicines called pyrethroids which kill mites.

What are scabies and crab lice (pubic lice)?

The symptoms of scabies are intense itching, especially at night, and a raised rash or spots. The spots may look red, and although are more difficult to see on dark skin, you should be able to feel them. The rash often starts between the fingers, and usually spreads across the whole body except the head. Whilst not a serious condition, it does need to be treated. Scabies is very infectious, but it can take up to 8 weeks for the rash to appear. Everyone in your home needs to be treated at the same time, even if they do not have symptoms. After one treatment, you can go back to work or school 24 hours later.

The symptoms of crab lice (pubic lice) include itching (which may be worse at night), inflammation and irritation caused by scratching, black powder in your underwear, and blue spots or small spots of blood on your skin, such as on your thighs or lower abdomen (caused by lice bites). About 2mm long, the yellow-grey or dusky red colour lice are most often found in pubic hair, although they can sometimes be found on other coarse body hair such as on the underarms, legs, chest or facial hair. They are spread by close bodily contact, usually sexual contact.

How do I use Lyclear Dermal Cream?

Apply a thin layer of the cream to clean, dry, cool skin. The cream should be applied to the whole body other than the head and face, unless this area includes places affected by scabies (facial hair especially). Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membrane (throat, inside the nose, the genitals) or open wounds. Rinse thoroughly with water if this contact does occur. Leave the cream on the skin for at least eight hours, for example, overnight.

One application is usually sufficient for successful treatment, however, if the issue persists, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment after two weeks. The itching may persist for a few weeks even after the scabies mites have been killed.
