What Is Imigran Nasal Spray?
Imigran is a treatment for those that experience less than 10 migraines in a month. Its active ingredient, sumatriptan, belongs to a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists, or triptans.
How does it work?
Migraines are thought to be caused by a temporary swelling of the blood vessels in the head. Imigran Nasal Spray contains sumatriptan, which causes the blood vessels in the brain to contract. This stops a migraine and so also removes the symptoms associated with migraines.
How do I take Imigran Nasal Spray?
You should spray the medication into one nostril and can re-administer at least two hours after, if the migraine recurs. Do not take another dose for the same attack if the first was ineffective and no more than 40mg per day.
How does Imigran Nasal Spray differ from Imigran tablets?
In terms of ingredients and mode of action, they are medically identical. However, the nasal spray will start working in about 15 minutes while the Imigran tablets takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
