Facts about erectile dysfunction

What is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction - also known as impotence - is a condition in which a man struggles to achieve or maintain an erection long enough for sex.

What causes erectile dysfunction?

ED is a very common condition among men, affecting all ages. ED is particularly prevalent in men over the age of 40.

The causes of erectile dysfunction can be due to underlying physical, psychological or emotional factors. While the cause of ED varies from person to person, an estimated 80% of diagnosed cases are caused by an underlying physical condition.

Erectile dysfunction medication, such as Viagra Connect, is recommended as a 'first line' treatment option by clinical experts and doctors to safely and easily treat ED.

Can erectile dysfunction be cured?

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for erectile dysfunction. While there is no cure, ED can be easily treated with orally taken medication, such as Viagra Connect.

There are also different versions and brands of ED medication with varying active ingredients, strengths and dosage options to help you find the treatment that works best for you.

Viagra Connect is the first ED treatment that's available without a prescription.

How does Viagra Connect work?

Like most other ED treatments, Viagra Connect tablets belong to a class of medications known as phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.

PDE5 is an enzyme that promotes the breakdown of cGMP, a cyclic nucleotide that regulates blood flow to the penis. By preventing PDE5 from degrading cGMP, the increased amount of cGMP creates a vasodilator effect, widening the blood vessels and relaxing the muscles around the penis. This helps to increase blood flow to the penis, thereby helping men achieve or maintain an erection.

How long does Viagra Connect take to work?

Viagra Connect or the unbranded version of the same drug, tend to take effect around half an hour after ingestion and last for up to four hours (although in most cases it lasts around two hours).

What is the most recommended form of ED treatment?

Oral prescription medications, including Viagra Connect, are regarded as the go-to treatment for erectile dysfunction.

When buying ED treatment online it's important to consider that while branded ED medications might be more well-known, unbranded versions work in exactly the same way and are often available at a lower price.
