Valerian root, the active ingredient of Nytol Herbal One-A-Night, contains valerenic acid. It is believed that valerenic acid increases the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) available in our central nervous system - more specifically, the brain. In turn, this rise in GABA creates a sedative effect.
How long can you take Nytol Herbal One-A-Night for?
Nytol Herbal One-A-Night has a gradual effect in aiding sleep, so the effects may not be felt immediately. It should be continued for 2-4 weeks. If your sleeplessness has not improved after 4 weeks, your GP or pharmacist may be able to recommend an alternative insomnia medication.

Take one Nytol Herbal One-A-Night tablet 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime with a glass of water. If necessary, you may take one more tablet earlier in the evening.

The difference between Nytol Herbal and Nytol Herbal One-A-Night is in the types and strengths of their active ingredients. Nytol Herbal contains 30.8mg of valerian root, 34mg of hops strobile and 15.2mg of passion flower whereas Nytol Herbal One-A-Night only contains valerian root but at a much higher strength of 385mg, which is why only one tablet is recommended.
How many Nytol Herbal One-A-Night tablets can you take?
The recommended dose of Nytol One-A-Night is one tablet taken 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime with a glass of water. If necessary, you can take one more tablet earlier in the evening. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
If you miss a dose, take the tablet as soon as you remember. Do not attempt to take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Who should not take Nytol Herbal One-A-Night?
Nytol Herbal One-A-Night may not be suitable for everyone. Do not take Nytol Herbal One-A-Night if you are:
