What is Senocalm IBS Relief and Prevention?
Senocalm IBS Relief and Prevention is an over-the-counter treatment that contains the active ingredient simethicone and peppermint oil. Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent used to treat wind (flatulence) and reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
What is Senocalm used for?
The treatment is used to reduce excess gas in the gastrointestinal tract, which can cause troublesome symptoms including:
- Bloating
- Burping
- Flatulence
How does Senocalm work?
Simethicone, the active ingredient in Senocalm, is an anti-foaming agent. When taken, it works by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles in the body, which allows them to combine into larger bubbles in the digestive tract and be passed easier. Painful bloating and abdominal pressure caused by IBS can often be attributed to excess gas in the stomach, and simethicone works to relieve that.
How should I take Senocalm?
The recommended dosage of Senocalm for adults and children aged 14 and above is two to three capsules per dose, up to a maximum of nine capsules a day. The treatment should be taken after a meal or before bed, with water.
Who can’t take Senocalm?
Senocalm is safe for adults and children to use, but you should consult your doctor if:
- Your symptoms do not improve or worsen after five days of treatment
- You experience any troublesome symptoms after taking the medication, including nausea and vomiting
Do not take Senocalm if:
- You are allergic to simethicone or any of the other ingredients in Senocalm
What are the side effects of Senocalm?
There are no known side effects of Senocalm when taken according to the dosages outlined in the patient information leaflet. If you do experience any side effects, stop using Senocalm and contact your doctor as soon as possible.
How should I store Senocalm?
Senocalm should be stored in a dry, cool environment that does not exceed 25°C.
